School holidays

My office is attached to a primary school.  Now that this is school holiday time there is a general lack of life around the place (as you would expect).  However, I cannot help notice that the headteacher is frequently on the premises, presumably doing work.  The same happened last week too when on phoning another school the head answered.  The problem that school senior managers (and janitors) have is that their responsibilities do not stop when the holidays start.  So in that case, and given that this is the year of the McCrone review, the question I feel myself asking is ‘Should headteachers still have school holidays?’

Now I am not suggesting that giving up the school holidays shouldn’t be without its rewards – additional renumeration, more flexibility with holiday arrangements, opportunities for cheaper holidays etc, but if headteachers need the holidays to do their jobs then why is that fact not recognised formally?

Just a thought……

Hello there.

As you can see from my tagline, this blog is clear evidence that I have decided to drag myself into the 21st century. Therefore, I now will be embracing blogs, wikis (whatever they are), digital cameras, video streaming, downloads, texting and the world wide web.

An alternative interpretation is that all this is an indication of an impending mid-life crisis.

I will let you decide over the coming months.
